Student Media Tech has been helping the Student Media groups create, manage, and maintain web content since 2017. In addition to providing support and services, the department’s primary focus is to provide a real-world working environment and professional development opportunities for student staff. Student staff positions open throughout the year and can be found on Handshake.

Professional Staff

Rae Fickle

Student Media Technology Advisor

Rae has been with Student Media Technology since 2020. Having worked on the team as a Student Web Developer and Project Manager, they are committed to creating professional development opportunities for other students. In addition to their new role as Tech Advisor, Rae is also an upper-division student in the Computer Science program. Before enrolling at Portland State, they received their Associate’s Degree in Website Development & Design from PCC, where they first became passionate about web usability and accessible design. Rae is excited to serve Student Media, and create opportunities for students to learn more about web technologies and design.

Student Staff

George Olson

Student Media Web Developer

George is a post-baccalaureate student in Computer Science, working towards entering the Computer Science master’s program. He loves coding and looking at pretty web pages. In his free time, he likes to go to concerts, play computer games, and daydream about traveling.

Hong Pan

Student Media Web Developer

Hong is a Computer Science student at Portland State University. He is interested in developing web and mobile applications with various languages and platforms. Hong’s favorite programming languages are C++, Python and Java. In the spare time, He likes playing soccer and chess.

Sara Ray

Student Media Web Designer

Sara (She/Her) is a current Graphic Design and Business student at PSU. She first got interested in design and marketing while working as the editor of her high school yearbook. Since then she has been exploring the world of adobe creative suite and learning new design and business skills within her degree. She loves any activity that provides a creative outlet or keeps her active, including hiking, crocheting, and painting.
